As has been pointed out, ad naseum, the Dolphins staff had inside info on Swope and decided he either wasn't needed at all or wasn't worth the pick. How all these arm chair Mel Kiper's believe they know something different is beyond me.
Swope may end up being a good player and having a nice career. However, the odds are against it, which is likely why his former coaches passed on him. He could end up playing as much as Austin Collie has for the Colts the past couple seasons, which is little to not at all.
Some people dont understand the importance of a good kicker, just think about the number of games that were decide by a fg. Im Ok with the pic.
Carpenter seemed to be winding down the past 2 years. He has all but lost his confidence. Come training camp if he's not kicking 10 for 10 and all touchbacks he'll be let go quick....
We got the best kicker in the draft. I'm not crazy happy about having a kicker, but we need one in this game lol
"The dolphins, which had been cavorting in the surf all along, showed up then. They circled him, keeping the shark at bay, and enabled Endris to get back on his board and catch a wave to the shore."
Dolphins even keep Sharks in check!
I first got a kick out of everybody complaining about not getting Swope but now it's just getting a little much. I every GM in the league passed him over many times then he really has some red flags that you need to take seriously. Could he end up bring good - sure, but is his absence from the dolphins going to hurt us. Nope.
I would of liked a receiver, but I am fine with the kicker pick. This was the year to do so, and we picked him at the right time. Specialty players were just beginning to go, and we valued him over Hopkins, so picked him over Hopkins. I am not in the business of ranking kickers, but if he was ranked number 1, it was the time to take him. Hopkins went off shortly thereafter.
I actually really like the positions picked. We needed a te, rb. A blocking te especially. We got them. We needed corners, we got 2 and possibly three. Pass rusher in today's NFL is an ideal position, and we got the guy with the best tools to be an impact one in the entire draft. We needed an interior lineman (Jerry sucks) and got one.
Where we may of gone wrong imo is the actual player choices. Thomas is pretty baffling to me, especially being injured. As is Will Davis, a projected fifth round talent who we have all seen embarrassing videos about.
If Ireland gets proper return on these picks and gets a third round og (ie very good) and a third round corner (decent), this will be a winning draft.
