Rivers is the perfect example of a good #s guy but not a good QB in reality. I would definitely take mark if everything was equal, I don't care about meaningless #s while losing games. The biggest difference in our div rd game back in the '09 playoffs was at QB where Rivers, as usual, made the big mistake and a rookie Mark did not.
I've seen Rivers do it with talent around him. You think Mark can do the same with more talent around him, but there is a big difference in thinking something and actually seeing it.
It is much easier for a QB not to make a mistake when your team is carrying you as opposed to relying on you to carry the team. buttfumble threw for 100 yards in that game while his team rushed for 169 yards. He did very little to help the Jets score points. On the Jets 3 scoring drives, Mark's role was 13 yards passing, 1 TD and (2) 3rd down conversions.
The biggest difference was their roles and the chargers kicker missing 3 FGs in a 3 point loss.
mark didn't have to pass after we went up double digits.
mark's last pass attempt was a critical 3rd down and 4 where he converted to Cotch. The next play was Greene's long TD run, w/o that pass Greene doesn't get that run and we don't go up 17-7.
after that last pass Rivers threw for 109 more pass yds in mostly meaningless situations while we ran the ball to run the clock so his #s looked better than they were and mark's worse than they were. mark was the better QB that day, the difference in that game was Rivers made the big mistake and Mark did not. That has been Rivers' issue his entire career, it's why he has been such a poor postseason QB.
outside of Greene's long run our RBs averaged 3.1 YPC the rest of the game, we did not have some great ground game for 4 qtrs. It was 1 play.
Are you still arguing buttfumble being a super bowl caliber quarterback?
He's terrible. Get over it. Your infatuation with Mark is like Shallow Hal thinking that whales are attractive. Mark will never win a super bowl, and the fact that he was carried to two AFC championship games was incredibly lucky on his part. You'd be hard pressed to find a starting gig for buttfumble in the Canadian football league. An offense that ran the ball 100% of the time would be better than a team led by buttfumble.
The Jets aren't good, and weren't good when they somehow made it to the AFC championship. Get over it.
The reality of the SD game: The most accurate kicker that year missed (for him) a makeable 58 and two relative chip shots of 36 and 40yds. buttfumble "set up" Feeley for an iffy 46 yarder in going 12-23, 101 yds, 60QBR, 1 TD (from the 3 yd line after a Rivers interception on the heels of an il-timed buttfumble interception returned the ball to the red zone).. and then stood aside as Greene broke a 53yd run for a TD, still managing to eke out a 3pt win. The equivalent of that being 'getting the best of Rivers' is a cubic zirconia being classified as a precious gemstone.
"Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else."
a 58 yarder(actually 57) is makeable but a 46 yarder is iffy? you just can't make this stuff up. Again, only funny when you aren't trying to be.
The great Nate Kaeding is a career 86% K in the reg season, he's a 53% K in postseason. He's kind of like the peyton manning of kickers. Sorry, kickers are part of the game. Our K missed 2 the following week at Indy, we weren't good enough that day and neither was SD this day.
Do yourself a favor, find someone who understands this game, get a copy of that SD game and ask them to evaluate the play of the QB. Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about while looking up boxscores.
The Jets didn't go up by 10 until there was only 7 minutes left in the game. The Jets didn't get the ball back until there was 4 minutes left in the game. Of course Mark didn't have to throw the ball after they went up by 10.
The bottom line is this, Mark only attempted 3 passes for 11 yards in all 3 of the Jets scoring drives in that game. The running game rushed for 96 yards in those 3 scoring drives. There are a lot of guys who can complete 3 passes for 11 yards while their running game and defense takes care of the rest. If buttfumble was asked to do what Rivers was in that game against the Jets defense, it would have been a disaster.
I don't really want to derail this thread, so I am going to leave it at that. Mark is likely to be a backup somewhere in the near future. Franchise QBs who you can win big with are not backups, so when he is a back up or out of the league, maybe that will be a wake up call.
