Hartselle Tigers (15-0) 5-A State Champ
The positives with Will Davis are found in his athleticism, intelligence, work ethic, upside, and the fact that he's an accomplished press corner who's gone up against some legitimate competition in terms of the QB's and WR's he's faced. He went from being a D-II nobody to become one of the best CB's in college football in a matter of 3 years.... and he's an Academic All-WAC selection.
He possesses insane lateral agility and change of direction skills, to go along with loose, fluid hips. His 4.02 short shuttle at the combine was second only to Desmond Trufant and B.W. Webb among CB's tested. His 6.52 cone was the best at the combine among CB's by quite a margin.... Logan Ryan was the closest to him with a 6.69.
Davis tracks the football well in the air and displays some of the best ball skills among this class of CB's.
The tackling will improve with coaching, the strength is already there. But make no mistake, he was drafted for his abilities in coverage. He came off the board almost exactly where I had him graded.
The shame is that Stedman Bailey was taken one pick before.
Fact is, Miami needed help at corner and got it with Will Davis, and he wasn't a reach at #93 overall.
