Former FAU linebacker David Hinds wasn't invited to the NFL scouting combine.
He wasn't drafted.
He wasn't signed as an undrafted free agent.
All he had was a tryout with his hometown team, the Miami Dolphins.
On Sunday, Hinds made the most of that opportunity, as the Dolphins signed him to a rookie free agent contract after the team's rookie minicamp practice.
Terms of the contract have not yet been announced.
"The hard work, attitude and attention to detail David showed during the weekend rookie orientation paid off, Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland said. As a player invited to tryout, David approached the whole process, highlighted by his work ethic during practices and meetings, with the type of characteristics that we are looking to add to the Miami Dolphins.
Hinds accumulated 238 tackles, four sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his four-year FAU career. He's a graduate of Miami-Edison High.
The Dolphins have singed a tryout player the past two years. Last year, the Dolphins signed Andrew McDonald after a strong tryout.
Attempts to reach out to Hinds and his agent have not been returned as of the publishing of this article.
