Mando: Lack of Stadium Election is Galling

    http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/05/0...sition-to.html

Great article. Well written. Thoughts that many had around here this weekend. I agree 100% with him.

Let's hear all the people talk again around here about how we have a representative system yet feel it is okay for one man to not only kill a vote of the people, but not even allow the ELECTED body he represents to not have a say of what should. Weatherford is shameful as is the people that support him.

THANK YOU!!! Great find. I agree 100% with every part of it. All of these people out here saying the dolphins will never leave Miami are afraid to face the truth. The county gets 4.2 million + from the dolphins every year, plus untold tens of millions from the benefits of the dolphins being in Dade, yet everyone thinks it is fair for Ross to pony up the entire $350 million out of his pocket so that the county can double his property value again and sit back and collect all the hundreds of millions over the next 20 years that upgrades will bring to the county.

Ross got screwed out of this deal big time, and if I was he, I would not worry for a second if the dolphins stayed in Miami or not. It's obvious they are just out to use him, and have no appreciation of the dolphins or what they bring, or mean, to the county. If I got a better offer or even a reasonable offer from some where else I would be out the door.

Has Weatherford issued any public statements concerning his position and actions?

I have not seen any. He needs to answer...or at least spin why he did what he did. Terrible.

Mando: Lack of Stadium Election is Galling

Ross never wanted this to get to a public vote in the first place, ala the Marlins vote. The only thing is now thy since that the "no public vote" wasn't in his favor, he is whining about it. You think he and Dee would be crying about Democracy if the renovations were approved without a public vote? LOL

No, he has pretty much just crawled back under his rock and is counting the money in bribes he got for screwing over the citizens of Dade county.

Allowing the full legislature to have a vote is as democratic as having a direct vote. Weatherford individually killing the vote is what is undemocratic and simple BS.

Think about it...a citizen's rep did not even have a chance to vote on this thing. Terrible. People need to stop defending this lousy example of a politician.

People can tell as many lies about the situation as they want, but the FACTS of the matter is that the day it was announced that there COULD be a vote, Ross said he was all for letting the voters decide. Voters are not as stupid as some of you try to make them. The voters were in a NO LOSE SITUATION. The citizens of Dade were looking at getting millions of dollars in revenue brought into the county without it costing them one red cent. Only those staying in hotels were going to get taxed, and on top of that, not only were the citizens not going to have to pay the tax, the money was going to be REPAID!!!! This means the people of Dade were going to get millions for free, with someone else from outside of the county to pay the bill, AND then get all the money BACK that they didn't have to pay for in the first place.

Now please tell me, what Dade county business owner would not be in favor of THAT bill?? If this went to a vote there was no way he could lose, so why would someone be so ignorant as to think Ross wouldn't want it to go to a vote??

When Ross first proposed bill he said out of his own mouth there wasnt enough time for a public vote before the NFL made a decision on superbowl bids so lets not act like Ross was all about the people getting their vote. It was a concession based on talking with the mayor but it was not something he favored. As for getting free money they were going to get 90 million dolars more in tax rebates along with the 289 million from bed tax . You can say the people didnt have to pay in first place but those were funds that could have been used for all kinds of tourist related development not just the dolphins as it was proposed.
