GM With hindsight, how would you have handled FA & Draft?

Long time to go before the season kicks off, so I wanted to post and get other peoples opinions on what they would have done if Jeff Ireland over offseason.

This is my go at playing Dolphin GM anyway.

    Retained
Kevin Burnett - Dannell Ellerbe signed for approx 7m a year, where Burnett was about 6m and rated by PFF as the 4th best 4-3 OLB 2012, who can also play ILB.

Davone Bess - signed Gibson for more than what Bess would have earned. Why?

    Resigned
    QB - Matt Moore 2yr/8m

    WR - Brian Hartline 5yr/30m

    Released
    CB - Dimitri Patterson

    K - Dan Carpenter

    Free Agency
    WR - Mike Wallace 5yr/60m

    RT - Tyson Clabo - 1yr/3m

    CB - Brent Grimes 1yr/5m

CB - Antoine Winfield 1yr/3m - I would have paid more for the most underrated corner in football IMO.

    TE - Dustin Keller 1yr/4.25m

OG - Matt Slausen 1yr/850K - we signed Louis for twice as much, yet he coming off injury.

    Draft
1 - DE - Bjoern Werner - Odrick back to his best position. DE rotation of Wake, Werner, Vernon. DT rotation of Soliai, Starks, Odrick.
    2a - CB - Jamar Taylor
2b - ILB - Arthur Brown - Could start day 1. Athletic and good against pass. Would have saved so much money drafting LB & IMO Brown & Burnett better than Ellerbe & Wheeler.
    3 - OT/OG - Dallas Thomas
    4a - OG/C - Barrett Jones - great depth
4b - FS/SS - Phillip Thomas - again depth as not much behind Jones & Clemons
    4c - DT - Jesse Williams - Starks & Soliai FA 2014
5a - RB - Joseph Randle - better value than Gillislee
    5c - Caleb Sturgis
7a - CB - Jordan Poyer - Cant have too many corner
7b - OLB - Chase Thomas - Better player than athlete who dropped due to combine

Not far different from Ireland but would have saved a ton of money if not throwing contracts at Ellerbe, Wheeler & Gibson. Please post your opinion

The only thing that I've been disappointed with, is our inability to sign Jake Long. I think we did what we could though. At the end of the day, he chose the Rams. I've been happy with everything else.

If you check the PFF stats Burnett I'm sure was rated higher than Ellerbe.

We saved about 5m a year with Clabo. Also Martin more suited to left and Clabo is a RT. Why pay another 5m to upset the balance for an injury prone tackle?

Would have signed Clabo, Grimes and Keller on 2 year deals, think they are all good solid players and would want to keep the around, cap permitting. Very happy with the draft but maybe a receiver in the 4th would have been good. Would have balanced Wallace's contract so there is more of a hit this year, although not sure it actually matters with being able to carry cap space over, does it? Clearly Ireland and Philbin's aim is for all these drafted guys this year and last to eventually start and so provide us with more room against the cap if we don't need the Carpenters, Incogs, Pattersons of this world.

I cant say i would change much. The money "thrown away" at Gibson, Ellerbe and Wheeler was because of them being a better fit for our team. Long wasnt an "ideal ZBS" LT. They obviously tried to retain him, but he chose STL. Gibson is a well rounded multiprpose WR, unlike Bess who is just a slot WR, plus he is slow. I loved Bess, and I would have loved to keep him, but if you look at the WRs we have, all of them can play multiple positions, same for our Oline, and Dline players! The theme of this team is multi-position players. Same for most of our draft picks Jordan (DE/3-4 OLB), Thomas (LG/LT, RG/RT), Gillislee can block, catch, and run, and Jones can play FS/CB. The problem with Dansby and Burnett is that they were not good in pass def, nor at rushing the QB, Wheeler and Ellerbe are better at both. I am not so concerned with the money that we used to sign players as we are in good standings with the salary cap, next year is a diff story.

Probably a wr in rd 2/3 but other then that, I'm quite pleased with the offseason. GIGANTIC splash on day 1 of FA and another big splash in rd.1 couldn't ask for much more.

O and probably sign keenan Lewis and cut either one of Patterson or Marshall.

    Overall pleased.

Would have preferred to draft another WR (any of Bailey in 3rd, Patton in the 4th, King or Swope in 5th, M. Wilson in 7th)
    A FS earlier (Rambo, Thomas)
Late rounders like Poyer at CB and chase Thomas at LB.
