That says more about our WRs last year than Gibson.

I think it is a little early to be talking about Gibson as a bust. Or in a lower spot at wr. I like Matthews a lot, but let us all take a breath and see what develops on the field. I also like what I am hearing about the younger wr talent. Different kind of talk than last year when everyone kept asking where the new receivers were, or getting on the 7-11 kick. I believe there is infintely better talent on the field at that position this year, and I would go as far as to say the same about the corners as well.

They toss out Bess, our 1st down specialist, in order to sign Gibson, another 1st down specialist.

Bess was earning 2.5 million this year and was a FA. Gibson is getting 3 million a year for 3 years and has 3 million of his deal guaranteed. Now, I wasn't a fan of the Gibson signing when it happened, but now that we are sans Bess, I'm not against it.

Question is... is Gibson equal to Bess in 1st downs? Does Gibson bring more to the table than Bess on the outside? Can Gibson match Bess's ability in the slot?

I'm assuming Gibson is the replacement for Bess otherwise I just dont know

Matthews is one of several reasons why I couldn't get behind the Brandon Gibson acquisition. I hope he proves me wrong, but I see more burst, power and determination in Matthews, not to mention speed. Of all the current dolphins WR's, Matthews strikes me as the one who most resbles a Green Bay receiver stylistically.

Well apparently, the one major piece holding 7-11 back was that he couldn't beat press coverage. He had then quickness and speed, but he couldn't get into his routes and was eliminated vs. Press coverage. Seeing as he profiled primarily as a slot guy, that's a huge deal. On Hard Knocks and at the open practices, this wasn't really shown. But, the coaches knew it. Since we don't really play press on defense, it wasn't highlighted in those public practices.

In the preseason games, like Dallas, he was given a litmus test and did not pass it with flying colors. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see him pip up somewhere in the next couple of years if he can improve that. The kid has some ability to separate, and that's the most important trait a WR can have to make a roster.

Gibson thus far is being used as the replacement for Bess, that's correct. But I think Rishard Matthews will eventually leapfrog him. And I don't think Gibson is going to show any special gift for Bess' role. I think he'll be worse than Bess possibly by a margin.

Really, I don't hear about Wallace tearing it up either. Give these guys time to learn the system, some are so quick to write people off.

That and the fact that our WR coach couldn't stand him for some reason.

    Rishard Matthews

The people who compare our receiving core to the Packers are crazy. If we switched receivers, the Packers would be much better off. Nelson, jones, and Cob have had Aaron Rogers for over one year. Let our guys develop before we destroy Gibson and compare us to the packers.
