Preserved Mammoth Found in Siberia / Could Possibly Be Cloned

Russian scientists discovered a fully-grown female mammoth with blood and well-preserved muscle tissue trapped in ice in Siberia. The findings come amid debates on whether the extinct species should be resurrected using DNA.

Scientists say they have managed to find mammoth blood during the excavation of a grown female animal on the Lyakhovsky Islands, the southernmost group of the New Siberian Islands in the Arctic seas of northeastern Russia.

The dark blood was found in ice cavities below the belly of the animal. When researchers broke the cavities with a poll pick, the blood came flowing out. The fact surprised them because the temperature was 10C below zero.

My initial reaction was as cool as it would be to see a living breathing Mammoth if we're going to use cloning why not use it to save or fortify the animals in trouble today? So I did a quick search and found this Ted Talks video which is pretty interesting in its own right as they are starting to bring back animals that have recently gone extinct. He does make a good point at the end though, I'm sure everybody is on board with bringing these animals back now but it may change things in peoples everyday lives (like those pigeons could become a major nuisance ripping up flower beds or whatever), and most people tend to not like change so much.
