Winningest coach of all time
Only undefeated season
Took a team to the SB without a real NFL caliber QB (Woodley).
That makes him number 1
The cynic knows the price of everything, but the value of nothing
Shula is an all time great w/o a doubt but I thought 3 was a little high.

I believe any man's finest hour - his greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle...Victorious
I'm completely at a loss as to how any of you could look at Shula as less than number 1. So far, I hear he didn't have the prestige of Lombardi, or he may have influenced the rules committee, or less titles than others or didn't adjust to the times.
Each of those arguments are a load of BS and amount to zero when it comes to the real deal!
1.) You are talking about the coach with the ALL-TIME most wins in his career. 347!! Can anyone top that? Hell no!
2.) You're talking about a coach who averaged more than 10 victories a year for 33 years!! 33 freaking years! Most of you are probably awaiting your 33rd b-day! Most coaches don't have marriages that long or children that age. You'll never see another head coach with that longevity nor will you EVER see one with that kind of winning percentage over such a lengthy period.
3.) You're talking about a coach who brought 6 teams to the Championship game.... post AFL-NFL merger!
4.) The undefeated team while an accomplishment is not even on par with the reasons above and there has still yet to be anyone to match that for the last 40 years.... and get this: nor the 50 years preceding that accomplishment! Over 90 years...
5.) He won in a run first era and won in a pass happy league through 5 decades of coaching, with HOF QB's as well as back-up QB's, or even an unheard of hybrid QB (Woodstrock)!
6.) He won more games than Lombardi, George Allen and John Madden- COMBINED!!
7.) He had 2 losing seasons in 33 years! (yeah I stole that one from above... but it was a good one!
You tell me who was better and I'll show you a real coach that outlasted your chump.. No "system" genius that disappeared after everyone else caught on. No quipper whose resume's been padded by nostalgia, nor even a longer tenured coach with more championships padded in a less competitive era!
DON SHULA No. 1 - GREATEST NFL COACH OF ALL TIME ..... F'in PERIOD!
Lombardi never had a losing season after taking over a GB franchise that hadn't had a winning season since 1947 and went 1-10-1 the year before he got there. he then went to Washington in 1969 and led them to their first winning season since 1955. Lombardi is #1, it's not really debateable.
2. great job
3. It was 5 post merger('71, '72, '73, '82, '84) , one pre merger('68) and how many did he win?
4. great accomplishment against the weakest sched of any SB champ. I believe the '73 team was better even though they lost games.
5. all time great coach but he didn't win championships in multiple eras.
6. That's great. I wouldn't put Allen and Madden anywhere near Shula. Lombardi had 5 championships which was more than DOUBLE what Shula had.
7. That is outstanding, he's an all time great but Lombardi had zero in 10.
he's an all time great, he's clearly not #1.
