Major, life threatening heat wave expected for the Western US.

A high pressure system parking over the West is expected to bring temperatures this weekend and into next week that are extreme even for a region used to baking during the summer.

Notoriously hot Death Valley's forecast calls for 129 degrees, not far off the world record of 134 logged there July 10, 1913. The National Weather Service called for 118 in Phoenix, and at least 117 in Las Vegas on Sunday a mark reached only twice in Sin City.

"It's brutal out there," said Leslie Carmine, spokeswoman for Catholic Charities, which runs a daytime shelter in Las Vegas to draw homeless people out of the heat and set them up with sunscreen and bottled water.

Meteorologists are calling for highs at or above 112 through Wednesday in Las Vegas, and there isn't even relief when the sun goes down. Sunday night's low is forecast to be 92 degrees enough to make for a stuffy stroll down the Strip at whatever hour tourists leave the bar.

Dry heat huh? 121, 122, and 118 degree high temps expected to scorch my area the next 3 days. That's hot no matter how you slice it. Whew! Stay cool and keep safe...especially the young, elderly, and pets!
I just try to be myself, whatever that is. I don't think about how I'll be remembered. I just want to be consistent over a long period of time. That's what the great players do.

It will only get hotter... Thank Big Oil and well-funded politicians for our current predicament.

Check out the doc Chasing Ice for an eye opener.

Cool. So you don't drive a car or use any electricity? I assume the laptop you are using to access this site is run by solar?

    Jared,

I actually don't drive much because I live in a city with metro access. Obviously I use electricity because I can't afford to be a Luddite, but I am also conscious if my energy usage and limit it as much as possible and try to take other efforts to live in an Eco-conscious manner.

That being said, I don't see how consuming any energy at all disqualifies someone from speaking out against the process of current technologies making the planet uninhabitable to human life.

Big Oil is aware of the data, yet still spends millions each year to muddy up the water so they don't have to wean themselves off the teet of their sacred cash cow, instead of doing the responsible thing and exploring alternative green energy sources even though it might be less lucrative.

Only a century into the advent of the combustion engine, we already have mass melt offs of glaciers. Can you imagine in another 100 years?

The problem with the ecosystem is that it's a very delicate thing... When you mess with the chemistry you can change a lot if things in a hurry...

That being said, it may already be too late, but at least some of these companies could stop putting fuel on the dumpster fire...

Kids born today will have quite a daunting future.

Our low temperature overnight was a "cool" 93 degrees. Barely hitting noon and it's already a buck fifteen. Thank goodness it's the weekend...yeesh!

I wonder who the folks were blaming the temperature on when the record was set back in 1913? Just a question.

The way this issue has become politicized is incredible to me.
