Interesting Interesting Read, good stats: Fins closing the gap, Pats favored in Vegas

    http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thedailydolphin/2013/06/28/miami-dolphins-closing-the-gap-in-afc-east-but-new-england-patriots-still-favored-in-vegas/

I really enjoyed this article. There are a lot of stats that, I will have to admit, I had no idea of.

I knew that Gronk and Hernandez hurt us but I didn't realize just how it was. I also didn't realize that there was such a lack of experience between Brady and his other receivers. We all knew how much he favorited Welker but frankly, I thought they had more depth (although they did lose Lloyd too).

Either way, I thought this was a good breakdown of how we stack up against the current Pats team. If Brady and Amendola can't find a rhythm, or if Amendola gets hurt, we have a real chance, better than I thought we did.

The Pats will be tortured this season in the media, especially the coaching staff for such a bad decision drafting Hernadez. 2 or 3 early losses will put them over the edge. What ever the vegas line is for Pats wins,I'd take the under.

Just because they released AH, the season it's way too close and these investigations are way too young and will hit very close to home for the players, some who may have been close to Hernadez. Not for the Lloyd murder but the Double murder and possibly others.

Hernadez = high risk = disastrous reward

The way our team was shaping up,I think we had a real chance anyway.Them losing Hernadez and Gronk playing catchup. We have a good shot at sweeping the pats, where prior I figured a split.

Pats get the nod based on past history. However, looking at both rosters, the Dolphins are the more talented team across the board. But that doesn't always translate to wins. It all comes down to Philbin's coaching ability and RT's development.
This is the 1st time in many yrs that the Phins have more team speed and talent at the skill positions than the Pats.
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

I don't see it. The Patriots won't be praised or tortured. The Hernandez case will hardly be a focus of the telecasts. In fact, I imagine it will be surprisingly quiet. Prosecutors will gather evidence and put together a case toward trial next year. Other than occasional updates on the networks, and perhaps an hour long special somewhere, there won't be great attention. The high point is right now and the forthcoming weeks, especially if evidence surfaces regarding the double murder last year. It's very possible, if not probable, that Hernandez played the 2012 season after committing two murders earlier in the year. I'm convinced his gun-violence resume is quite substantial, beyond anything we're ever going to learn.

Regardless, New England is only vulnerable if there's evidence they looked away, while he was a member of the organization. That doesn't seem to be the case. A Boston writer has an column saying Hernandez fooled everyone, that he could be a charmer in the lockerroom, initiating greetings with players and reporters.

While it's true that one team took Hernandez off the board in 2010, it wasn't a consensus. The Patriots would face far greater scrutiny if virtually every team made it known before the fact that they wanted nothing to do with him.

If the Fins can avoid serious injuries to the starters, and the oline parts can somehow jell, we have a great shot at dethroning the Pats this year.
The Pats have their own issues too, they are a mediocre team with a great QB.

I think the two biggest areas of concern are Tannehill's progression & injuries. One of which seems to be progressing nicely and the other the front office/coaches have no control of.

I'm not overly worried about the o-line gelling. The four returning starters all played together last year for four games and Clabo is a veteran RT. After an extra week of preseason practice and 5 preseason games they should be fine.

If you said you were worried about Martin's ability to hold down the LT spot consistently that I can agree with as he needs to show all those weights he lifted this offseason paid off.

Well we wont have to wait long because if the Pats struggle which I predict they will,it will be early in the season and they will be racing Miami for 9-7 / 10-6

Phins are a close second to Pats still since schedule is tougher then last year. Wildcard spot is very possible. Phins have a better chance of keeping pats under 30 points and causing more turnovers. Brady is about to receive much more pressure from phins then last year and our pass defense is improved. We should split our games worst case. If phins have winning record after 5 games and beat pats in Miami then we can win the division.
