I don't mean to proselytize, just to underscore the importance of quality. If I thought all beer tasted like Bud-light or Steel Reserve, I wouldn't drink beer.
Yes, agree but what I want isn't probably what happens. Think the overpopulation would be the lesser of reasons. Close a prison, or as you said "the smart thing" is to keep them and protect the people from violent criminals longer...such as depending on crime, instead of 40 days/months/years you get sent away away for 50 days/months/years. Heck, use that pot tax money to increase the proportion of private prisoners too.
Just a quick thing. I see people mentioning legalization that is actually probably not what you want. If I remember correctly there is no country in the world where weed is fully legalized, only in some is it decriminalized. What this would mean is that you would be able to buy weed from specified shops and smoke in them. You would not be allowed to smoke on the streets, but you would be able to smoke in your home. Also you would only be legally allowed to walk around with a certain amount of pot on you.
However, selling marijuana, and growing your own plants would still remain illegal. IMO this is a fair compromise to both sides, no longer will people get arrested and processed for a having a dime on them. But on the flip side people that don't want to have to deal with marijuana wouldn't as the smoking would only be in certain specified areas which would be easy to avoid. I think the biggest complication is for driving how exactly can you measure if someone is too high to drive? or if you smoke are you now allowed to drive for the rest of the day? That is one question that I am interested in getting the answer to
Colorado implemented some system where they test for nanogram levels of THC in the blood, but they set the thresehold way too low. Some people had smoked the night before, & still tested above 5 nanograms the next day. How lean/active a person is also affects the levels. For example someone with a high body-fat percentage & is sedentary is going to retain higher levels for longer. So that's a tough question.Originally Posted by mrhankey81701

It has to be the purple of the durple. And cheaper than we get it from black market.

As far as impaired driving goes, the appropriate threshold level is always going to be debated. I'm sure we have some people here who feel .08 is too low for the legal drinking limit, just like I believe Colorado set a low threshold. I suppose those type of things end up being on the lower end of the spectrum because for some of us .08 might not impair our ability to drive, but it might for a 110lb, 22 year old girl. I've smoked joints while driving on numerous occasions, but others might be rendered incapable of accelerating past 10 mph.
My question is where does this rabbit-hole end? We don't have any method of determining if someone is too high on Xanax to drive. We don't have a method of determining if someone is too high on cocaine to drive. Are we going to devise a method to test for every drug imaginable? If someone is driving recklessly enough to be pulled-over, why not just charge them with reckless driving, impound the car, & be done with it?
The best decriminilaztion law I can think of is to ban limited liability entities from manufacturing or selling. It has nothing to with whether you care for big business or corporations, it's that it will control distribution in such a way that you can't buy dope at your corner 7/11. At the same time it eliminates the black market.
Obviously the costs would be higher to the consumer, since corporations can more effectively raise capital and limit risk, but that's not really the point when it comes to this sort of thing.
