Here is a list of starting quarterbacks and the td/interceptions that they produced in their first season as the starter
Some of these players had bad teams, some had an elite receiver, or an elite defense, some were instant stars, some struggled.... and some of them were Chad Henne
Player td INT Drew Brees 17 16 season 2 Joe Flacco 14 12 Mark Sanchez 12 20 Big ben 17 11 Matt Ryan 16 11 Tom Brady 18 12 season 2 Chad Henne 12 14 season 2 Eli Manning 6 9 9 games Sam Bradford 19 15 Matt Stafford 13 20 Alex Smith 1 11 9 games
Here are some stats from Tannehill's rookie class
player TD INT Andrew Luck 23 18 RG3 20 5 brandon Weeden 14 17 Ryan Tannehill 12 13
I just thought I would put these stats out and make one comment : Ryan Tannehill was drafted the long term rather than short term solution, nobody inside or outside of the organisation expected him to start for one, maybe two seasons. But he started (with a bad receiver core and set of tightens) and these are the figures he put up. How different are they to the "sure thing/cant miss" franchise changing qbs in this list?
As for those of you who put massive stock in year one numbers and really use it as a stick to measure Tannehill against his peers and argue how far behind the others he is, I have one more little table for you... take from this whatever you want
Player TD INT Tom Brady 18 12 year two Andy Dalton 20 13 year one
Tannehill has a VERY bright future, he wasn't even meant to be ready to play this season... and he still more than held his own.
