I read a number of posts, during and after the Bucs game, from "Phans" ripping Thigpen for the two fumbles in a preseason game. Many said he should be cut, and basically sucks. This was sad, and almost pathetic.
For those who don't pay any attention to special teams. Thigpen was the #2 kick returner in the NFL last year, averaging 27 yds a kick off, with a TD, and over 12 yards on punts, with a TD. This was the first time he saw the field, and mad a mistake, the other fumble was not on him. As far as I recall, he did not have a fumble last year, when it mattered.
I also expect him to make some plays this year at WR and RB. Hei s scary in the open field.
Just had to get that out of my system, as ST's are very important, and so is Thigpen.
That's exactly it, people see two fumbles but fail to realize he has been our best option in the return game since I was a wee lad.
You don't cut Thigpen because he fumbled you cut Thingpen because you signed a guy like Devin Hester but we all know that hasn't happened.
"Martining" things is no way to go through life.
Don't be a Martin.
Well how do you explain Bess having 24 fair catches (in 2011 when he was the primary punt returner) to Thigpen having only 6 (last year). If Rizzi is teaching not to catch the ball then we need a new special teams coach.
Easy. Bess caught most of the punts on a short field this past year where a fair catch is often necessary. The coaches weren't comfortable with Thigpen in that situation last year.
