All those big tight ends in the league kicking ass and signing big contracts should be such big motivation for this kid...
I think his targets will come as he shows a better understanding of his role in oractices. The fact he was even out there on a game winning drive is an improvement.
I've said for awhile now, this staff coaches players up. They don't throe guys under the bus the way sparano did. Remember philbin wouldn't put jordy nelson in games for a few years until he showed well in practice. Jordy wasn't a scrub, just needed polishing, turned out quite fine id say.
Look at a guy like Jorday Cameron, the TE position is a hard position to learn at te NFL. Not everyone blows it up the first year. I'm patient when it comes to TEs. I think he's starting to get it a little more each week.
Let's go Miami!!!!
Teams waste a lot of money and resources on "potential".
I think the bigger problem starts real young. "Potential" is a nice way of saying previous coaches have failed. Instead of identifying the kid as the problem, the inference is the coaching has failed to tap into their talents. After enough of this cycle, the kid realizes he will never have to actually apply himself/herself to their own development. They lack the drive, devotion and determination to be accountable for their own success.
Sometimes, there truly are "gems" that are found in UDFA's or later rounds. But if you look close enough, you'll see work ethic has always been driving their pursuit of their dreams. They took responsibility for themselves.
Personally, I see "potential" as a euphemism for laziness.
For every guy that has "potential" there is a guy working his arse off that will never get noticed.
Imagine that, another talented playe we drafted, that's taking sometime to develop, especially at one of the most difficult positions to learn.
In Ireland I Trust!!
The Category 5 Hurricane That's Going To Create Devastation To The NFL!!
You don't think he has been practicing his routes and blocking? I think it silly to suggest he isn't doing these things. That was actually a slight against Philbin. You are suggesting Philbin is keeping a player around that doesn't practice his craft. Does that even sound intelligent. Not sure why you a bunch of thank you's for that silliness.
Don't be so close minded. Antonio Gates had a lot of potential before he realized it. Tannehill had a bunch of potential last season. Cam Wake had potential while playing in Canada. Drew Brees' first 2- 3 years in the NFL weren't great but, he did show a lot of what? Yes, potential. Do you not see the enormous amount of potential Dion Jordan has? I do, let's hope he realizes it. Saying someone has potential simply means if they work hard and learn, they should be able to successful in what they do. Some are lazy, usually the ones that don't make it but, the ones that do make it, started somewhere. They just realized their potential.

It usually takes 3 years for someone to really hit it after college, I'm happy to be patient because he does look to have worked hard and you can see he could be another good cog in our offense.
