    McDonald's coffee lawsuit

    http://www.upworthy.com/ever-hear-ab...illions?c=ufb1

Like quite a few of you, I was pretty young when this whole thing went down, so I only really know about it through second and third hand sources. This short video delves into what really happened and gives a much more detailed account of what actually happened. An interesting watch for sure...

If I could take your pain and frame it, and hang it on my wall,
maybe you would never have to hurt again...

More to the point - Can I sue the founders of Earth Day for any paper cuts I receive? After all, it's the proclivity of trees occurring in nature that have allowed the paper industry to flourish, thus surrounding me with copious amounts of this dangerous material on a daily basis.

I don't like McDonalds. I haven't been to a McDonalds in like 10 years but she still bears the main responsibility. Not sure why anybody would put a cup of hot anything between legs or knees or whatever unless it is a in a solid thermo container and sealed.
I am glad they reduced the amount though it is still too much.

I feel sorry for the lady and the pains she went through but ........

I was going to make fun of this and say she should have put the balm on like Cramer but after seeing the injuries it was not funny.
Bet Micky D's wishes they had just paid her $10,000 doctor bill and been done with it.

I find it interesting that she got less than 650K, yet everyone reported the juror's recommendation of 2.7M as if that was the settlement. I also didn't know that McDonalds had received hundreds of other complaints of burns and did nothing about it. Granted she shouldn't have taken off the lid, but serving something at 180-190 degrees, nearly twice the temperature required to boil water, seems excessive. More than anything, its an interesting piece to watch if only to see how what really happens evolves in the media...

The judge probably read the jury recommendation out loud so the media ran with that number instead of waiting for the final judgement. Better headlines and all.

The coffee at the flash foods near me is so hot in the mornings I have to pour some out and put in ice cubes to even drink it. Anything above the temp of your home Mr coffee is excessive if you ask me.

Noticed the case was tried in Albuquerque. She'd probably gotten more if she only called Saul

I was quite surprised by this when I saw it too. Although now I'm learning that there are many cases that can seem ridiculous on face value and yet still have important legal implications. One case in my contracts class in particular started with the line: "The issue is what is chicken?"
