I'm a civil war buff myself. The history channel 2 just ran a great 2 hour Gettysburg where that mapped out all the unit movements on all three days focusing on the one on one encounters and individual stories. It was great.
On one encounter on Culp's hill the brigades fighting each other were both from Maryland. Brother against brother and when the southern commander went down some of his neighbors on the Union side cared for him and made sure he got back to confederate line.
If the rebs final push break through in that battle or Jeb Stuart's cavalry arrives sooner the south wins.
i live in Macon Ga where Jefferson Davis hid out a few weeks at the wars end before going to Alabama. Legion has it there are tons of confederate gold buried here, Andersonville where the keep most yankee prisoners is 30 miles away.

We could go around and around about Gettysburg. It's the high water mark of the American Civil War
by any measure. It's heroic actions by individual men and, units nobody's heard of today
that made that battle what it is.

I LOVE talking Gettysburg. It's a science of men.

Buford's Cavalry (Being of cavalry myself) is one of my favorite parts.
I could've done with a less "Mystical" performance, but it's
what a cavalryman is supposed to do. Find out what's going
on, and if you have to fight, fight on your ground.

George Armstrong Custer actually saved the day for the north. His 500 man unit charged the 5,000 or so rebel cavalry units of Jed Stuart who were circling around the yankee position and changed the battle completely.
