Seems like there is some good things going on. They have to FINISH the season strong, however, to keep those positive thoughts flowing.

Guess all reported was not positive..

    ### A close associate of Jonathan Martin insists that contrary to a network report, he has turned over all text messages requested of him by investigator Ted Wells. That ESPN report was retracted

Like the the old Navaho Indian saying says.. 'it is better to be the snake than the snake dinner'.

    PS: just made that up

There is plenty of time to discuss this idea after the season. However, one thing I will be harping on is while the line is the focus of the offseason, strengthening the pass defense is just as important. The pass rushers are there, but what is at LB in terms of coverage? Can they get Grimes back? Carroll? If Patterson is released for cap savings, is there a replacement in FA and or draft? The development of Taylor and Davis is huge.

QB's like Brady X2, Manning, Rivers, Cutler, Rodgers, Stafford and possibly other studs based on where the Fins finish state that having a strong pass defense is essential to this offseason.

    Hayden,

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the following:

Based on how the team seems to growing and especially if they finish the season strong. Do you think its absolutely IMPERATIVE that everyone comes back for 2014? Coach Philbin, OC,DC and Yes, even J.Ireland.

I don't see Moore coming back at his base salary of $4 million next season add to a restructure of
Wallace and this team could easily have mid $40 million available.
Do you give that $40+ million into the hands of Jeff Ireland?

I personally think you have to because in the hands of another GM doesn't guarantee that anyone from this current Coaching staff returns. We are at a crucial point in this teams development and it has to play out completely. Keeping J.Ireland is the only guarantee that there is continuity for atleast one more season going forward.

Here has been my position even though some want to alter what I have said...

    1) At ONE TIME I thought that the Martin Saga was too toxic to bring "an average coach back". However, as time has gone on, he has kept the team together and it seems the scandal does not touch him. So maybe he is not as toxic as I once believed.

    2) IF Ireland is canned, then I have stated Philbin should go too. I do not want shotgun marriages with a brand new GM being forced with Joe (see the Jets this year). IF, IF, IF Ireland is canned and Ross wants to really, really, really keep Philbin, then I say he should double down on Joe and allow him to pick his GM or elevate Brian Gaine to that spot and give Joe personnel control.

    3) Continuity does win over time.

Joe Philbin's team's have too many peaks and valleys during games and I think his in game strategies are very weak. Still my opinion.
