A continuation in the decriminalization of marijuana should take care of a decent amount of that percentage. Or at least I would guess. Or I guess at least I hope that would be the case that the majority of the incarcerated are not violent offenders of the sort.
Not surprising. This country has too many laws.
The war on drugs is a money-driven scam that utilizes useful idiots (over-zealous do-gooders). It will self-perpetuate forever unless we do the smart thing and just legalize the whole mess. It is WAY easier to get drugs than it is to get alcohol despite the ridiculous resources put into stopping drugs...which BTW only drives the prices higher and brings more suppliers into the mix. The whole mess is an exercise in stupidity...if someone wants to get stoned, let them.
All about big business and police unions wanting that $$$
If there were any stats out of North Korea I'd imagine they'd be close to us if not higher. Not good territory to be in.
but when the trumpets blew again and the knights charged, the name they cried was "Stannis! Stannis! STANNIS!"

Soon, just speaking about this will get you into trouble(rabbit eared drone whizzing over head).
This thread is a reflection of the problem with this country. A thread about how this country imprisons more victims aka citizens, than anybody
else on this planet. And yet we can't even get a page worthuh replies. Yet a thread about Asians getting butthurt about a tv show impersonating them gets like 6 pages worth of replies. Same with the duck dynasty stuff, that gets like 20 pages. But real travesties like this? Nah. The media didnt beat it into my head enough, or give me permission to feel this is as important as some butthurt Asians or homosexuals.
The other side of this is that I seriously doubt that many countries, especially those with questionable governments, have accurate counts of their prison population. One also has to account for political dissidents being slaughtered, squelched, or exiled. The US is fairly transparent on things like this...at least as far as we know. Also, you have to account for the illegal aliens that we have jailed here in the US...some speculate as much as 25% of the federal prison population is illegal aliens. Truth be told, I don't think that we are too much different than anywhere else but the drug BS needs to go away.
