The marine stadium was my favorite place for concerts. Saw Jimmy Buffet from my buddies boat and yes us and our ladies were wasted away again. Good memories.

Also saw the Stones and the Who at the orange bowl in the 80's which was great for big concerts.

LOL. Wouldn't even put that place in my top 10 bro, unless you counted all of Disney's parks as a whole.

Was at Pirates World once I think (in Hollywood or Dania?) ...sort of reminded me of Freedomland, another theme park up in the Bronx that had a short life. Was barely on my radar so I haven't thought of that place in many years. Compared to the attraction options heading due north, wasn't too impressed. Also remember in the late 60s, going to Lion County Safari not too long after they opened. Loved it.

Speaking of free concerts, before they renovated Gulfstream Park, it also used to promote some pretty good concerts on the grass for the $5 price of admission which included free parking and a $2 parimutuel betting slip. (I'd usually use it to bet longshots and once hit a 35:1 shot). Was a nice way to spend a sunny Saturday or Sunday afternoon listening to David Clayton Thomas, Taylor Dayne, Nestor Torres, a revised version of Guess Who, etc. Miss it.

While I don't remember Pirate World, I do remember an indoor pirate themed arcade/gaming place that used to be on Bird Road. I think it was called Pirates, but I'm not sure. I remember it being pretty badass, but sometimes nostalgia clouds how crappy something really was. I'm not sure what's there now (A Honda dealership maybe?) since I haven't driven by there in over a decade.

Don't know if you've been following it, but there's a movement to get the Marine Stadium renovated. Gloria Estefan and Jimmy Buffett are supporting it. I hope everything works out, that place is such a great architectural achievement and a cool place to see concerts. Here's the link if you're interested: http://www.marinestadium.org/index.php

Thanks for the info. What happened to that place with all the grafitti and neglect is disgraceful. I saw it on Burn Notice i think and was shocked at how the place looked.

Unbelievable that the city let it get to this condition.
