Matthew has probably been the source of considerable pride in the Philbin family having served his country and being smart enough to make it through West Point but there is no excuse for this. Unfortunately, this is a major distraction for our Head Coach.
I have a feeling he wont get discharged. He should be though and dishonorably

For a guy that you always hear about that embraces character in his players he seemed to instill none in his sons.
Hope he is a better football coach than father
Joe did good enough with Matthew, to have him become an officer in the US military. He could have done much worse. His son is now a grown man, and should take responsibility of his own actions. ANY blame on Joe is just comical.

No Mike... There's nothing 'better' about it. It just gets worse.
    This is a non-story.

I was referring to both of his sons the now dead rapist and the alleged drunk driver that fleed like a coward from an accident where he injured someone.
It is his son's responsibility but this is now the second son that commits a crime and doesn't take responsibility for it.
His son may be a grown man but there is a definite lack of character there in that bloodline.

    I agree. I just don't think he's a leader of men also.

The problem is, he embraces character in word, but does not demand it in deed. Not that this story means he is a bad coach, but he does have issues as a disciplinarian as a HC in my opinion. I like Philbin and I hope he sticks, but in order for that to happen I think he has to become a little more forceful in his delivery or be prepared to dole out more consequences and less "talks" to players who need it. Kind of the opposite of Tom Coughlin, who had to meet his players in the middle as he was too rigid. Problem is, it's usually easier to soften than to toughen. I hope he can do it though, because I believe that he has some good coaching qualities.
    Thanks for the sig, Nublar.

The problem is Philbin seems to have a "zero tolerance" for mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, your character is determined/shaped/revealed by how you handle those mistakes. As a result of Philbin not allowing for mistakes, his sons seem to want to cover up their mistakes instead of dealing with the consequences. You've got to teach that it's okay to fail as long as you "fail forward" and not do dumb ****!!!

Instead of obsessing about picking up gum wrappers...
