What the heck does College football have to do with it?

There was no college football being played at that time on that day anyway......... It's Freakin Tennis For God's Sake!!! Why couldn't some kind of Waiver, or exception be put in for this situation?

There is a tripleheader on ABC. There might be a Notre Dame game on NBC. That's not to mention all of the ESPN and FSN regional games.

If such a federal law exists, it was put there to prevent the NFL from cannibalizing the revenue of college football.

One of my two CBS stations up here in the Panhandle is showing Mississippi or Mississippi State and the other is showing tennis. They need to bump that tennis!

Who says College football needs protection by the gov't? If this is a real law, it should be changed...before Saturday at 1....I guess that is not too likely aay?

I do remember that there was some agreement made in 1963, to allow the NFL to have merged national package(there was a probable anti-trust violation for shared revenue for network tv to replace invidual tv contracts, like the situation with baseball teams), in which the NFL agreed to not play on Saturdays(many teams often played on Saturdays in the 1950's), and colleges would no longer play on Sundays(many big city private schools, who no longer play football, would play on Sundays). This was done to protect the gate for the college teams. I believe this agreement may still be in effect. Of course back then there usually was just one college game on tv a week, and an individual team could only appear on tv twice a year.
