2004 Scouting Report - Football Scouts Inc.
Name: Wade Smith
Position: Offensive Tackle
Grade: 72 | Key
Smith lacks ideal size but has excellent mobility and he showed significant progress over the course of last year. Takes excellent angles to blocks and has the first step to get into position quickly. Has the burst to get to the second level quickly, has the lateral mobility to adjust to the moving target in space and is an effective downfield blocker. As a pass blocker, shows excellent footwork, can change directions quickly and can counter double moves. Shows a quick set, rarely gets beaten around the corner and has the long arms to ride edge rushers past the pocket. Smith has also added some weight and he has the frame to add some more but he is a former college tight end that is undersized and he is a much better pass blocker than run blocker. Lacks the lower body strength to get movement in the running game and struggles when massive two-gap defensive ends line up over head. Lacks a mean streak and needs to be more physical. Smith may never be a dominant drive blocker and he would benefit from continuing to add some bulk but he is efficient and he has the potential to develop into an excellent blindside protector.
