Would've been funny if we traded him to the phins.
SAINTS TRADE RB RICKY WILLIAMS
For Immediate Release
Sept. 1, 2002
In a move to garner future potential draft selections, the Saints today traded RB Ricky Williams to the Indianapolis Colts for an undisclosed conditional 2003 draft pick, the team announced. Williams, signed by the Saints as a rookie free agent (4/23), had 19 rushes for 88 yards (4.6 avg.) and 3 receptions for 25 yards (8.3 avg.). He ranked second on the team in rushing during the preseason.
The Saints released the list of final cuts but maintained the option to trade any player on that list as long as the deal was completed and reported to the league today by 3:00 p.m. CT.
"We feel like we have solidified our running back position this weekend by acquiring RB Curtis Keaton," said Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis. "Today, we were able to work the phones and get a deal done with the Colts. We feel that Ricky deserved to play in the league and we wish him the best in Indianapolis."
The Saints roster stands at 53.
