    A watershed moment in history?

MDFINFAN, I'm especially eager to see your comments on this.

Last week, when we realized that three of the four remaining quarterbacks in the NFC playoff field were black, it occurred to us that, if the Falcons were to beat the Rams, it would be the first time that a conference title game featured two African-American signal-callers.

In our view, it's a non-issue. The notion of black quarterbacks not being an accepted part of the football landscape and the college or the pro level is one of the fading memories of racial bias.

The Washington Post, on the other hand, believes that the meeting of McNabb and Vick in the NFC championship game is a big deal. But treating it as some watershed moment in the history of sports implicitly, in our opinion, gives credence to the notion that race is still a factor in determining whether a guy is allowed to play quarterback.

It's not. And will never be again.

Our guess is that most fans didn't even realize the racial significance of the McNabb-Vick showdown, and that's a good thing. Although there are still concerns about racial preferences when it comes to coaching and front office hires, the powers-that-be clearly and unequivocally have realized that skin color has no relationship whatsoever to quarterbacking ability.

Daunte Culpepper is the best black QB, and the 2nd best overall QB in my opinion. I wanted to see a Culpepper-Manning Super Bowl but oh well, looks like the Patsies are going to run the tables again.
