Anyone notice this year our run game has lived and died with the health of...

    MARK DIXON?

I mean, really the only game of the year that Dixon started where we couldn't run the ball, was the NY Jets game 3 weeks ago...and that was Dixon's first game back from injury.

Dixon also started the Kansas City game, but Ricky had plenty of room to run, the problem was that the KC offense obliterated us with Tony Gonzales, and Ricky only had like 3 runs in the entire second half of the game.

Below are Ricky's numbers with Dixon in the game.
157 rushes for 758 yards (4.8 ypc) with 8 rush TDs.
23 catches for 217 yards (9.4 ypc) and 1 rec TD.
Averaging 108.3 yards (at 4.8 ypc) and 1 rush touchdown PER GAME.

Below are Ricky's numbers with Dixon out of the game.
95 rushes for 298 yards (3.1 ypc) with 2 rush TDs.
10 catches for 77 yards (7.7 ypc) and 0 rec TDs.
Averaging 74.5 yards (at 3.1 ypc) with .5 rush touchdowns PER GAME.

Is this coincidental? Most likely it is mostly coincidental, but still QUITE a pronounced dropoff, from 4.8 ypc to 3.1 ypc when Dixon is no longer in the game.

Did I not call that earlier this week?? I said that Ricky's game depended on Mark Dixon's availability and health for the game today. Ricky a non-factor huh???

I never said Ricky will be a non-factor.

    Ponder THIS...

With Mark Dixon playing Left Tackle, Phins QBs have 8 TDs and 2 INTs in 6.75 games (Dixon left KC game beginning 4th Quarter).

Without Mark Dixon playing Left Tackle, Phins QBs have 4 TDs and 10 INTs in 4.25 games.

Apparently, our quarterbacks live and die by Dixon's blocking. And our running game lives and dies by our quarterbacks ability to not get his head chopped off long enough to run this offense efficiently.

Wow...this just gets deeper and deeper.

Miami has allowed 10 sacks in the 17 quarters we've played without Mark Dixon.

We've allowed 6 sacks in the 27 quarters we've played with Mark Dixon.

JEEEEEEEEEZZZZ.....This is like, too easy of an answer.

Dixn definately is a factor for a number of reasons. First off he he flat out a better blocker where as Spriggs often needed help with his defenders taking a defender away from someone else on the field. That is probably the main reason everyone's numbers are down when he is out.

Plus, Dixon is probably the line captain and leader out there. He unifys them and anchors a fragile line. You take that cog out and that throws everyone else off of their rhythem, which leads to problems.

I have heard that Dixon is planning on retiring after this season, I sure as heck hope not as he is definately the best linemen we have.

Well you're partly right. I believe Tim Ruddy is the line captain and leader out there. He's the one that makes all the calls. Dixon has never been as isolated as he is now that he's over at LT. He basically just works alone.

Parrot, I was debating whether to call Dixon the captain as Ruddy was sticking in my mind as one but nonetheless Dixon is definately one of the most if not THE most respected memeber of our offensive line.

I totally agree on the importacne of Dixon to our offense, and not just the running game. He makes that line go. He provides protection, and blocking that is just not there when he is not in the lineup.

But, THAT is the biggest problem with Marc Dixon. The guy is just not able to consistently play a whole season. We depend on him so much, that when he is not in there, the dropoff is noticably different.

He has always been injury-prone. It's a shame, cause he could have been one of the all-time Dolphin greats IF he could have been able to stay in the lineup longer.

I always had heard the idea of using him as the first backup lineman off the bench. I never really cared for that idea, but if he is to remain a Dolphin after this year, I think that could be a very smart move. This way, he wouldn't have to play 16 games. He never does anyway. You could kind of use a three-man rotation system with him. It could possibly prolong his career, and definitely help the team.
