Dolphins sign LB Special teamer Cam Brown

2020 Guide: What Ourlads' Scouting Services said about CAM BROWN: Penn State, 6052 233 4.69. Two-year starter, Burtonsville, MD. Third-team All-Big 10 in 2019. Lengthy outside linebacker with experience in the box-mostly in the nickel package. Most often used on the edge backed off in the Penn State 4-3. Physical setting the edge versus slot receivers with a quick punch. Uses his long arms to get separation and shed. Solid lateral movement makes him difficult to get around on the perimeter. Aggressive moving downhill and exploding into tackles. Has range to chase in pursuit and make plays on the backside. Solid flat defender once he makes his read getting into his drop with depth. Reads route combinations and closes the void between zones constricting the throwing lane. Fluid flipping his hips to work between short and intermediate routes where his length can disrupt outside throws. Quarterbacks often stay off his area with his imposing length. Effective re-routing slot receivers working up the field. Has blitz skill with a burst to close in chase mode. Shows occasional hesitation reacting at times. Not as good inline as he lacks power to consistently work against offensive linemen. Has some trouble tackling in space as he is often over aggressive and fails to gather before he strikes. Has missed some clean open field shots. Has range to be a factor in kick coverage and this will have to be a factor projecting him. Has backup and sub package potential that with added strength could allow him to develop into a starter. Senior Bowl notes: In practice flashed downhill and shed ability working to the ball. Displayed depth in pass drops and could flip his hips to close voids in zone coverage. A late injury caused him to miss the game. 2019 stats: 72 T, 5.5 TFL, 2 sacks, 4 PBU, 4 QBH, 1 FF. OSR:12/19. Fourth/fifth round. (A-34, H-9 1/2, BP-16, SS-DNP).

Great. ST is going to be a different animal on kickoffs but the guy looks like a wrecking ball.

Yeah, I am not sure what to make of kickoffs now.

At first it appeared kickoffs will be irrelevant.

However, the rule changes now make it plausible that guys like Hill or Waddle may return kicks.

If that's the case, special teams have now become a truly critical unit to have a solid unit at.

will he make the punter better tho?

I do hope its no real guaranteed money. I would much rather a 4th round rookie LB with actual defensive potential to have a spot over a bunch of ST only players. If I'm not mistaken (which could be), the CB we signed only plays ST and hasnt really did **** at cornerback. So we are tying up 5 positions on Sunday for ST only players, P, K, LS, and ST aces

so at ILB we have Long and Brooks as the starters.........after that we have Walker/Tindall/Duke and not this new guy......I think we'll carry 4 ILB's so who's not making the team?

Any thoughts on drafting the Iowa punter? If we had more picks, I think it would make sense. Not sure if Bailey is guaranteed money, but if we could draft Tory Taylor and cut Bailey, that would be an immediate upgrade as Taylor had a higher average than Bailey last year.

The linebacker room has a few bodies. Long, Brooks, Walker, Riley, Tindal on the inside... Chubb, Phillips, Barrett, Goode, Brown on the edge. Goode could be a PS option and replaced on the 53 roster and Tindal could be traded for a late day 3 pick. Would love it if we could trade either Tindal or Eichenberg with a 2025 3rd round pick for a 2024 3rd, but not sure anybody would be interested in that offer.

Belicek said that new special teams will require more size and strength over speed.

Not sure how that works with the new rules and all, ive avoided looking at the process like the plague.

Maybe you could shed some light if your up to speed on everything and what he means ?

I think Bailey's experience counts for more than just the average, for example holding for kicks where he has been a big upgrade. Not saying we should not look to upgrade but seems like a lot of rookie punters come into the league every year with big college averages and yet very few have long careers. Either those averages dont translate or teams dont see raw averages as the sole important quality.

I would note that Bailey also has kicking experience and serves as a competent emergency backup. FWIW

I'd like to see brooks and achane as returnees and they do miss-directions by passing each other and handing off to whoever has the clearer path like this:
