Keon Coleman vs Malik Washington

You guys are awfully high on a 6th round pick,
A 6th round pick that was rated as high as the 2nd round by experts, 3rd by many, and only fell because of his height.

Much more to this guy than his draft position, IMO. And McD has a full-on Viagra boner for the guy, so.

First off, he's miscast in Buffalo. Curtis Samuel and Shakir are almost slot exclusive, thus Keon is almost a lock to play outside and I don't think he can consistently win there.

Yeah, he's tall but I don't see as much materialized contested catch ability as some hope he'll display in the NFL.

His deep speed is poor, his route running is meh, his ball tracking is also not great.

He is great getting off the LOS and his body control and fluidity allow him to get open quick but he'll seriously struggle getting open past 10 yards.

His best asset currently is his play with the ball on his hands but that's also Samuel's and Shakir's meal ticket.

He's best suited as a big slot/H-Back type and he won't get a chance to play that role when they desperately need him on the outside.

There are many more reasons but that's my #1. He's not who everone hopes he is.

Not to discredit his strengths or accomplishments. I would have like him here playing the slot but I don't think he can win outside against NFL corners.

But, it is who Joshie wanted ... so there is that

/s?

My concern about the production side is volume. While I personally preferred Malik over Coleman in Miami (he was a better fit). My ideal scenario is for Miami to run an above average percentage of the time. Hill and Waddle are still the big play guys and we increase our RB and TE targets. That doesn't leave a ton of targets but Malik becomes a clutch 3rd down option. Conversely, Buffalo struggles to run and has to rely on Allen's legs. And forces a ton of passes to a sub par receiving room resulting in Allen leading the league in INTs.

I know, I know, we are the smartest team in the NFL.

A lot of average receivers can put up Pro Bowl numbers in this day and age given enough opportunity. If Coleman gets 150 targets he'll be the man. If he gets 50 targets he won't. I'm reminded of this by people who keep insisting we sign DJ Chark šŸ˜‚

Question to those who think Coleman is terrible, why did Buffalo trade back several times to select him? He was obviously the guy they wanted.

Because of what they think of Josh's skillset.

They've given up on developing him as a passer.

He probably also would rather an offense tailored to his talents instead of developing himself further.

I think the reported signing of OBJ puts an end to this thread. The Dolphins arenā€™t paying OBJ $8 million dollars to come in and sit behind a rookie.

Unless Hill, Waddle, or OBJ go down for much of the season with an injury, I donā€™t see Washington seeing the field much in 2024. In fact he will be in a battle with Berrios, EZ, and Cracraft just to be the 5th or 6th WR on the roster.

Gonna be more difficult for them to make the team after we just signed OBJ to 1 year $3m. For some reason the dude's thread about it was deleted. It's on ESPN.
