The All-Purpose Draft thread....

I agree that they aren't trading him. However, I can't necessarily agree that trading him isn't the best path towards competing for a Super Bowl when staring at a dynasty in your own division.

$50 Million in cap space can buy you some quality players, when coupled with the draft compensation you'd get for Herbert (minus the 5th pick in the draft you'd have to use on McCarthy), its easy to understand the logic behind the potential deal.

Derwin James will be 28 before the season starts and heading into his age 29 and age 30 seasons, he's due about $48.5M in combined cap hits, which I'm guessing are the highest in the league at that position.

Joey Bosa will be 29 this summer and has extensive injury problems, he has a $36M cap hit due in his age 30 season, his last under contract.

Khalil Mack is likely in his last season as a Charger and will still carry an $8.8M cap hit in 2025, despite no longer being a Charger.

Keenan Allen, Austin Ekelor and Mike Williams are all gone and Corey Linsley was forced to retire because of injury.

I get how starting over with a butt load of assets would be appealing to Harbaugh, when coupled with the reunion of the QB he just won a national championship with.
I guess it comes down to whether Harbaugh thinks he can win big with Herbert.

If the answer is yes, then you obviously don't trade him. If it's no, then it's a good opportunity to reset at the position.

It's Worthy or Wiggins!!! 😆 🤣

Is it just me that can't abide these red carpet walks? I don't give a damn what shoes these prospects have got on. With Cam Newton doing the interviews, just shoot me now :)

I also think that's a bad comparison. Although, I'd buy he's somewhere between Parker and DJ Metcalf.

Only comparison to Parker is his win rate with 50/50 balls. He’s a lot more dynamic and has the potential to actually develop as a route runner. BTJ has the speed to take the top off the defense and actually win one on one with separation down the field.

As actual football players they are not similar at all on the field. They’re just both big primary outside guys and although Parker ran well at the combine he was never a real burner like Thomas is downfield.

The Xavior Worthy smokescreen is funny.... but omg if Worthy, Hill, Waddle and Achane were on the field together.... how does anyone stop that? I need to get back to reality.

It's a great question.

I'm not advocating for Worthy, but how would defenses defend that? It could really open up the running game because defenses would have to protect against elite speed coming from four different players.

My guess is teams would try to get really physical at the line of scrimmage, but they'd also likely have to go with five defensive backs to try to match that speed.

Plus, McDaniel is so good at moving players around, motion etc.

It is interesting.

Exactly. I think he's probably closer to Metcalf as a prospect.

Ya I don't think it'll be an issue as the offers won't be pouring in.

When the time comes to make a decision, it will be an easy decision to make. He doesn't have a lot of leverage so I would negotiate an extension with him now.

We need him for 2024, so barring a miracle offer, there isn't much to talk about in regards to Holland.
I'm not sure McDaniel and Grier are looking at 2024 as this make or break season. I'm not sure if you are either but I think they are playing the long game.

The real eye opener for me was how small Caleb Williams was when standing next to Cam Newton, he looked like a child compared to him.
