The top 4 Edges are locks. To carry a 5th means one less DB or off-ball LB, I'd guess. How would we work that out?

Idk about Murphy but Goode, Chubb and Phillips may not be ready for TC/Pre-season/ Season opener on a new scheme with a new DC who specializes on DL.

Plus Barrett is old and also has an injury history.

I took Reason's declaration as Murphy being kept along with the 4 locks. I have no idea if he was implying JP or Chubb would be on PUP for the first few weeks of the season.

I'm not addresing or agreeing with Reasons, I'm answering your question about availability of roster spots.

I'm sure atleast 2, maybe 3 or even all of those will miss some time early on.

I'm not tabbing anyone to overtake them just yet, though.

I was counting wrong anyway. 5 edges look like locks. Kamara is the 5th. Murphy would be the 6th. With 10 DBs, 5 IDLs, 4 ILBs. That would make 25 on defense. 6 WRs, 2 QBs, 4 RBs, 1 FB, 3 TEs, 9 OLs, equals 25 offensive players. Not needing to use a roster spot on 3rd QB helps a little. This is assuming, of course, that JP and Chubb can begin the season on the active roster. Murphy would most likely be competing with a 5th ILB, whether Tindall or Brown.

Even at UCLA Murphy was mainly a 3rd down pass rushing specialist. That said, at 6'3" 250, 4.6 40, and extremely productive in college, it's one heck of a UDFA.

As much as I've been effusive and going on about Grayson, he's not a lock and like most UDFA's is less than 50-50 to make the team. Hope he gets a PS spot, at least. I really was shocked neither Murphy got drafted.

I never understood how Gabriel was rated so much higher than Grayson. Gabriel was rated about where I'd have expected them both to be ranked. There isn't a nickel's worth of difference between them.
